People buy property for a number of different reasons dependent on their age and life stage, financial situation, and aspirations. Imagine Murcia tries to find the ideal properties for its clients, treating each as an individual. That said, it is possible to show some trends in certain age groups:

Age Groups

55 Plus – below are some of the reasons that people in this age group buy properties abroad:

·         They are semi retired, have more free time and want to spend it in the sunshine (either on holiday or on a semi permanent or permanent basis)

·         The cost of living is much cheaper here (unless you insist on buying English branded goods e.g. HP Cook In Sauces etc)

·         The climate here is good for arthritis, rheumatism and breathing disorders

·         They like to play golf/tennis or whatever sport interests them, all year round

·         Their families have grown up and they want to downsize their property in the UK and realise some of the capital.

·         Their mortgages are paid off and they have spare cash.

·         They have received a lump sum of cash from an inheritance or other investments

40 – 55    The majority of buyers fall into this age group, here are some of the reasons that these people buy properties abroad:

·         They want to buy something for their retirement

·         Their mortgages are paid off and they have spare cash.

·         They like to go on holiday to places that are familiar

·         They want to invest in property abroad

·         They want to have a place where they just pop over for the weekend

·         They see that Spain is still a good place to invest

25 – 40    These are often young people who are comfortably off and can afford the luxury of a second home. They have similar reasons for buying as the other groups as well as some of their own:

·         When you have young children it is easier to stay in self catering accommodation than in a hotel (especially in your own place)

·         They are fed up with the rat race and want to make a new start to spend more quality time with their family

·         They have family / friends living in the area

·         They can’t afford to get on the housing ladder in the UK and see this as a way of owning their own property.

·         They want to make a business out of renting their property(s)
